Information on the Huron IACUC System Implementation

Who Will it Affect?

Members of the research community who conduct or review research involving animals.

When Will it Go Live?

Fall 2023

Why is it Being Implemented?

The Huron IACUC module is a system designed to help Principal Investigators (PIs) manage their animal research studies in accordance with animal welfare regulations. The module streamlines the protocol submission process, facilitates communication between PIs, IACUC staff, and reviewers, ensures compliance with regulations and institutional policies, saves time, and provides increased transparency in the review process.

How will it be Implemented?

Below is a snapshot of the project methodology for this implementation.

Objectives

  1. To simplify the protocol submission process for Principal Investigatirs (PIs) by providing a user-friendly interface that guides them through the process and reduces errors.
  2. To ensure compliance with animal welfare regulations and instututional policies by providing tools that help PIs create and manage protocols that meet ethical standards.
  3. To enhance communication between PIs, IACUC staff and reviewers by providing a centralized platform for collaboration, feedback, and tracking of protocol progress.
  4. To save time for PIs by automating administrative tasks such as form completion and submission, record-keeping, and protocol tracking.
  5. To increase transparency into the review process by allowing PIs to track the progress of their protocols and view feedback and comments from reviewers, which will help them better understand and review process and improve their protocols as needed.
