  • The Office of the Executive Dean for Research (EDR)

    The Office of the Executive Dean for Research (EDR) facilitates research for the Miller School of Medicine (MSOM). It houses various units which provide:

    • General research administrative support,
    • Pre-award and post-award services for MSOM grant proposals and awards
    • Services and support for clinical research, including facilities for the conduct of clinical research on the medical campus.
    • Management of research facilities and equipment for the medical campus.

  • Research Development & Support (RDS)

    Based within the Office of the Executive Dean for Research, Research Development & Support (RDS) is a shared resource that provides administrative support on sponsored projects for assigned departments, centers, and institutes at the MSOM. 

    Services include: 

    • Proposal and budget development before grant submission 
    • Pre-award guidance for complex proposal submissions, including NIH T32 and P30/P50 grants 
    • Post-award monitoring of projects and financial projections 
    • Clinical trial invoicing 
    • Effort certification 
    • Award close-out review

  • Investigator Initiated Trial Services at the U (IITS-U)

    IITS-U provides services to the research community in the following areas: 

    • Clinical trial regulatory support as it pertains to: 
    • Guidance on clinical trial regulations and ICH GCP guidance 
    • Review of protocols, case report forms and other clinical trial specific forms 
    • Submissions and maintenance of IND or IDE applications to the FDA 
    • Project management for multi-site IITs 
    • Data management for multi-site IITs 
    • Safety management for multi-site IITs

  • Miami Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI)

    The Miami Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) provides crucial support and resources to our investigators as they plan and implement research studies and clinical trials that aim to improve the health of patients and communities. 

    We work tirelessly to help ensure scientific discoveries become tangible outcomes that can be applied to disease prevention, treatments and practices that improve health. 

    CTSI’s goal is to move innovative and high-quality research forward with greater efficiency. We do this in numerous concrete ways, including by:   

    • providing seed funding for research projects,   
    • supporting the career development of promising early stage researchers,   
    • building education and training programs,   
    • improving research processes and disseminating best practices,   
    • developing tools that help researchers access and analyze clinical data,   
    • bringing together multidisciplinary study teams,   
    • fostering strong collaborations with academic, clinical and community partners  
    • and linking research with our communities to ensure we are tackling all health needs.

  • Sylvester Cancer Center Clinical Research Services (CRS)

    The mission of Sylvester Clinical Research Services (CRS) is to provide exceptional support to Sylvester clinical investigators to facilitate leading-edge clinical research with the highest levels of expertise, compliance, and integrity to improve the lives of cancer patients. 

    CRS provides Clinical Protocol and Data Management (CPDM) support and a centralized office for the conduct of cancer clinical trials at University of Miami (UM). The purpose of the CRS is to provide an effective and efficient infrastructure to support Sylvester investigators in developing, implementing, and reporting on all UM cancer clinical research studies.

  • Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations

    The Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations works with faculty and researchers to secure gifts and philanthropic grants from companies and private independent foundations. The team:

    • Identifies corporate and foundation funding opportunities that match competitive and priority research and programs.
    • Supports principal investigators in developing strong and compelling grant proposals that align with corporate/foundation funders’ focus areas.
    • Builds and nurtures relationships with institutional funders to share areas of strength at the University of Miami and cultivate application invitations.
    • Maintains a database of more than 1,500 philanthropic grant opportunities, all vetted for University of Miami eligibility.
