Research oversight committees are formal bodies established to ensure that research activities within the University of Miami are conducted ethically, responsibly, and in compliance with regulatory standards. These committees play a critical role in safeguarding the integrity of research and the welfare of participants, whether human or animal, by providing independent review, guidance, and accountability.
The Institutional Biosafety Committee provides oversight for research involving recombinant/synthetic nucleic acid molecules, bacteria, viruses and toxins including Select Agents.
Institutional Review Boards are responsible for the ethical review and oversight of all human subject research under the auspices of the Federal Wide Assurance, in compliance with federal, state & local regulations.
