The MCA-Budget Team, within the Office of Research Administration, supports research-related billing compliance by performing Medicare Coverage Analysis (MCA), meeting all relevant rules and regulations for applicable clinical research/clinical trials conducted by UM faculty, and reviews and negotiates budgets for industry-initiated clinical research/trials to ensure financial sustainability and adherence to applicable university’s rules and regulations.
Services
- Develops and revises Medicare Coverage Analysis (MCA) for all applicable clinical research/clinical trials, regardless of the funding source (including intramural funding)
- Makes MCA available in CTMS (Velos) to guide research-related billing
- Collaborates with Clinical Research Revenue Cycle (CRRC), faculty and their departments on reviewing of research-related billing issues, including revision of MCA as needed
- Performs ancillary reviews in IRB, determining the need for research study to have MCA and be tracked for billing in Velos
- Provides research pricing for clinical procedures conducted at University’s clinical facilities for proposals to any funding source
- For industry-initiated/supported clinical research/trials agreements/amendments handled by ORA contracting unit:
- Reviewing and negotiating budgets and payment terms
- Submitting documentation to JHS CTO for all studies with activities at JHS facilities and collaborating on obtaining JHS budget for inclusion into overall budget
- Reviewing and approving financial provisions of finalized agreements
- Initiating JHS Work Orders (JWO) and Work Order Amendments in IBIS System
