Overview and Purpose

The Consent to Contact (CTC) initiative at the University of Miami is a recruitment support program that enables UHealth patients to voluntarily consent to being contacted about research studies for which they may qualify. This approach helps investigators meet enrollment goals while maintaining compliance with HIPAA and institutional privacy standards.

The purpose of CTC is to:

  • Facilitate ethical recruitment by ensuring patients have provided explicit consent to be contacted.
  • Streamline identification of eligible participants through a centralized pool managed by CTSI.
  • Protect patient privacy and data security by requiring IRB approval, HIPAA training, and adherence to institutional policies.
  • Promote collaboration and oversight through review and approval by the CTC Operational Committee (CTCOC), which includes representatives from Clinical Departments, Research Administration, CTSI, General Counsel, and HSRO.

This process ensures that recruitment activities are transparent, compliant, and aligned with the University’s commitment to patient rights and research integrity.
