National Security Presidential Memorandum‑33 (NSPM‑33) emphasizes the importance of transparency, accuracy, and completeness in the disclosure of research activities, appointments, and scholarly outputs. As part of the University of Miami’s Research Security Program (RSP), the University encourages the use of ORCID iDs (Open Researcher and Contributor IDs) to improve the consistency, traceability, and integrity of disclosure information provided to sponsors, collaborators, and the institution.
ORCID provides investigators with a persistent digital identifier that distinguishes them from other researchers and reliably links them to their scholarly outputs, affiliations, and contributions across institutions and funding agencies. The use of ORCID aligns with evolving federal research security expectations, including those related to standardized disclosures and persistent identifiers.
The University of Miami Libraries have led institutional efforts in advancing ORCID adoption across the UM community and provide extensive guidance, tools, and direct support for researchers seeking to create, connect, and maintain their ORCID records.
Researchers are strongly encouraged to consult the Libraries’ ORCID resources to learn more about the benefits of ORCID and how it integrates with publishing, funding, and research visibility efforts:

To support research security and disclosure accuracy, UM investigators may enter their ORCID iD in the “Institutional Responsibilities” section of the UDisclose System.
Including an ORCID iD in UDisclose allows investigators to:
This step does not replace required disclosures of outside activities and foreign relationships, but enhances the clarity and completeness of the information provided as part of UM’s compliance and research security framework.
