Effort Certification Guide

The University of Miami has deployed a web-based ECC system as a tool to facilitate and simplify project confirmation and effort certification for Faculty, Voluntary Faculty, Faculty Emeritus and Principal Investigators engaged as active researchers on UM sponsored research activities.  After-the-fact project confirmation and certification of effort spent on grants and contracts is required to comply with Federal and State policy. 

 The ECC system is designed to ensure effort reporting of externally sponsored activities is managed in a manner consistent with requirements set forth in OMB Uniform Guidance 2 CFR 200.430, Federal and State regulations, as well as agency specific guidelines.  Failure to comply with UM’s policies and procedures may result in audit findings, suspension of sponsored activities, closer monitoring by the sponsor, delays in final payments, and/or other enforcement actions imposed by the sponsor.  This policy applies to all Federal and non-Federal external sponsored activities.
